In 2015, Papa Tovar wanted to share his passion for the cuisine of his Mexican heritage with his DC community. With a focus on authentic Mexican flavors combined with the freshest ingredients, Tovar and his son – both José – set-out on this quest.

Today, J&J Mex-Taqueria is a beloved favorite of the DMV featuring 12 types of tacos made with fresh ingredients along with a variety of other Mexican favorites such as burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tortas and vegetarian options. But don’t miss the specialty items that include birria tacos made with slow-cooked, tender and juicy beef stew, carne asada and fajitas.

J&J Mex-Taqueria is run by Jose “Papa” Tovar and Jose Tovar Ibarra, a father-and-son duo originally from San Luis Potosí, Mexico who share a passion for serving authentic Mexican dishes that celebrate their heritage.
